Oimatsu Shuzo

Oimatsu Shuzo is located in Hita City, on the border between Oita Prefecture and Fukuoka Prefecture. It is nestled among beautiful mountains in Kyushu, and was once a part of the Edo Shogunate. It is known as the "Little Kyoto of Kyushu" for its unique and rich culture and developed industry. Oimatsu Shuzo has a long history dating back to the first year of the Kansei era, 1789. The founder of the first generation of sake makers began brewing sake because the pure spring water flowing from the Oomatsu Shrine, which had an old pine tree in Hita, was suitable for brewing sake, hence the name "Oimatsu Shuzo" (meaning old pine tree) .
